FCA publishes final rules for the UK cryptoasset regulatory regime

The FCA has published a major package of final rules and guidance covering regulated cryptoasset activities, stablecoin issuance, custody, admissions and disclosures, market abuse, prudential requirements and wider conduct standards.

Published 30 June 2026Effective 25 October 2027Regulation

On 30 June 2026, the UK Financial Conduct Authority published its policy statement package for the future cryptoasset regulatory regime. The package explains how the FCA Handbook and supporting guidance will apply to firms carrying on regulated cryptoasset activities.

The framework addresses core requirements, stablecoin issuance, custody, regulated activities, admissions and disclosures, market abuse controls and prudential standards. The broader regulated perimeter is scheduled to apply from 25 October 2027, giving firms a preparation and authorisation period.

Why it matters

Cryptoasset businesses serving the UK should now map their activities against the final framework, identify required permissions and begin preparing governance, consumer-duty, operational-resilience, safeguarding and prudential documentation before the authorisation gateway and implementation dates.

Who is affected

Crypto exchanges, custodians, stablecoin issuers, brokers, trading platforms, staking providers, overseas firms serving UK customers and traditional financial institutions entering cryptoasset markets.
